The 5 Jobs that Steal your Sleep the Most.

Posted on Thursday Jun 28, 2012

Over the years since I became the Mattress Guru I have talked to a lot of people who have had jobs that have created many sleeping disorders. I have heard from everyone from the night shift workers to the regular business man. Below I have listed my opinion of the top 5 jobs that steal your sleep the most.

#1. New Parent:

It has been reported that new parents lose 450 – 700 hours of sleep the first year of being a parent. This is multiplied when people have a few small children. This may seem like a lot of sleep and when you consider it is 1.5 – 2.5 hours every single night you start to understand why new parents are at the top of our list of Jobs that are bod for your sleep.

#2. Airline Pilot:

With flying all over the country for your job your body can never get adjusted to the right time of day it is and where you are. This actually causes airline pilots and those who travel a lot for work to get less sleep than the average 9-5 employee. Also long flights at night and flying for long extended periods of time throw off the sleep schedule considerably. Pilots hardly ever sleep on the same mattress and this is hard on ones body.

#3. Health Care Professionals:

Unlike most jobs health care companies can never close.  Patients are getting sick at all hours of the day and night. This forces health care professionals to work around the clock 365 days a year. Most new professionals are stuck working the hard shifts that mess up their sleeping schedules. This accompanied with a highly stressful work environment makes health care professionals one of the jobs that is most responsible for stealing your sleep.

#4. Senior Managers:

If you’re or you have a cranky boss don’t worry you not alone. Most senior level managers report that they get less sleep in their new position. This has to do with a number of different factors. First a lot of time these managers work more than 8 hours a day. This exhausts the body and no matter how much they sleep they can’t seem to get rested. Also the amount of stress that is handled by these workers is usually very high. Some managers now days also give employees their cell phone numbers and this may wake them up during the night or add even more stress to them when they are at home and trying to wide down and relax.

#5. Truck Driver:

Trucking is an extremely important for not only the economy but the overall day to day lives of each and every person in the country.  Every product we use every day comes from some sort of trucking operation. This being said this job steals more sleep from its truck drivers than more other jobs. Getting products accosted country in a timely fashion can be a very difficult and stressful job. Driving at night and for long extended hours severally inhibits the ability for truckers to sleep.  This can also be a very dangerous job as well.  Even through most of these people have a mattress in their truck this does not make up for a good nights sleep at home.

There are a lot of jobs out there that force employees to work late night shifts that disrupt the normal sleeping patterns of their lives. I am sure that I have overlooked a few jobs and would love to hear feedback from you. What jobs are the worst for your sleep.
