Sleep is Good for you.

Sleep is good for you for so many different reasons. As a sleep expert I have traveled around lending my knowledge to anyone who wants to learn more about sleep and the benefits that come with it. What most people don’t seem to realize is that sleep affects everything we do in our daily lives. By messing up our normal sleep patterns and getting less than the recommended amount of sleep each night we are in fact doing our bodies a great disservice.

We control our bodies and the amount of sleep that we get each night. When we don’t get the sleep our bodies need we have to make up the energy in some area. Most of the time the only way to get the energy our bodies need is to fill it full of un needed food, caffeine and other stimulates our bodies use as quick fuel. This would not need to be done if our bodies would be taken care of by us in the first place. I try to compare our bodies to something most people already know about and can relate too. One example that I have found that seems to be very consistent on how we treat our bodies would have to be the new car old car theory. This theory is that most people take really good care of a new car until the newness wares off. Then the new owner takes a little bit less care of the car sometime allowing other to eat in it or storing trash or other items in the car that they didn’t when they felt the car was still new. After time the car becomes less and less taken care of until the person gets a new car and the process is started over.

This is a great way to think of our bodies and sleep. We know that we need sleep and when we are young we sleep a lot. However once we get old and our lives get more hectic we sleep less thus taking care of our bodies less. This is a slower progressive process than the car but the major difference is that you can get a new car you can’t get a new body or life. This being said we should take more care of our body that we do our cars. However, most people take better care of their cars than they do themselves.
Sleep is one of the things we seem to forget about when we are not feeling our best. Most New Year’s resolutions state that they want to lose weight and get in better shape however how many times have we heard of someone wanting to get more sleep to improve their health. We need to install these sleeping principal in our young children so that they know the importance of sleep.
